Background

The Julio-Claudian Dynasty was the royal dynasty of the first emperors of the Roman Empire following the assassination of Julius Caesar and the breakup of the Roman Republic. Its founder was Augustus, whose descendants and successors; Tiberius, Caligula, Claudius and Nero ruled over the empire until the later committed suicide.
